SUNY CORTLAND POLICE: Turn in Your Fake ID, Have Chance to Win Beats Headphones
How much is your fake ID worth to you? Well, SUNY Cortland Police think it’s worth just as much as a new pair of Apple Beats Solo 3 headphones.
Today from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the SUNY Cortland Student Life Center as a part of a series of Fake ID Amnesty Days, University Police are hoping to encourage students to turn in their fake IDs for a chance to win new headphones.
Upon turning in a fake or old ID to Substance Abuse Prevention and Education Staff members you won’t face any consequence and will be entered to win the nearly $300 headphones
On average a fake ID costs about $100 and its estimated that a fake New York state ID costs about $160. And, according to a study published in the National Center for Biotechnology Information, the amount of students who obtain a fake ID goes from 12.5% before college to 32.2% by the end of their fourth semester. That means that nearly a third of college students own a fake ID by the end of their sophomore year.
The consequences for possessing a fake idea in NY is usually handled on a case by case basis but could result in a $1,000 fine for first time offenders.
But the choice is up to you. You could turn in your fake ID and be the lucky winner or one day you might have to face the music.
