SUNY Broome, and several of the SUNY Community colleges in New York, have officially canceled their 20-21 indoor winter sports programs.

According to a press release from SUNY Broome, the decision was made because of health and safety concerns for the student athletes, staff, and coaches.

The sports included in the cancelation are basketball, cheerleading, and volleyball, with decisions on spring sports to be announced next month.

The exception was the lower indoor sports, that includes bowling, swimming, and diving, that may compete in a virtual setting, but must observe COVID-19 protocols

The press release issue a joint statement that said:

"Taking into account the health and safety of our student-athletes, SUNY Broome has cancelled all indoor winter sports for the 2020-2021 athletic season."

SUNY Corning is also on the list of Community Colleges that have canceled their 20-21 indoor winter sports programs.

The NJCAA SUNY Community Colleges are putting plans into place for the return of sports in the spring.

Campuses will make individual determinations regarding on-campus workouts, and training regarding the Student athletes.
