Here's a scary and sobering fact: millions of people die every year from strokes and heart attacks caused by the stress in their lives. But there’s something you can do to help decrease your chances of that happening and it involves hiking.

When we face stress, also sometimes called a ‘crisis situation,’ stress hormones flow through our blood-steam and can harm our mental and physical being.

So, what’s the best way to stop stressing about things we can’t control like that big test tomorrow or the boss who’s been unreasonably breathing down our back? Go for a hike!

The University of Michigan as well as Edge Hill observed over 1,000 participants separating them into two groups of walkers and non-walkers. The results showed the walker’s level of stress was lowered after hitting the trails.

If you’re looking for other benefits on walking, the list is pretty extensive. Walking also lowers the risk of disease, helps prevent dementia, helps prevent osteoporosis and tones our bodies.
