A friend and fellow basketball official, Chris Haynes was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia on May 3rd, 2019, and got great care at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC.

While he was there, he witnessed kids with various types of cancer and he saw that their parents had the means or the insurance to cover the costs. Chris wanted to have something good come from his illness and he decided to help the kids that had insufficient or no insurance.

When he came back to town, he put together a golf tournament hosted by our International Association of Approved Basketball Officials Board 49. Unfortunately less than a year after being diagnosed with leukemia, he lost his life.

It's an awful loss for our community but his memory will live on. We will honor him with the Chris Haynes Memorial St. Jude Golf Tournament at Traditions at the Glen in Johnson City on Sunday, October 11th. Many of my fellow basketball officials are participating but this is open to anyone that wants to honor Chris or anyone else that has been affected by cancer.

It's FORE a good cause as all net proceeds will be donated to St. Jude Children's Hospital and there are a few slots still available. To get information or to make a monetary donation to St. Jude in Chris's name, email Brian Jester at BJester@Binghamton.edu. It's only $80 per golfer and it includes golf, lunch and post-tournament dinner.

THANK YOU CHRIS for thinking of others even while you were fighting this dreaded disease.
