Nobody respects soldiers that come in harms way every day and protect this great country of ours, more than I do.

A recent report is drawing attention to US soldiers who do not meet its fitness standards, dealing with obesity and under the intense pressure to trim its budget, the US Army is dismissing a rising number of these men and women.

According to military officials, "obesity is now the leading cause of ineligibility for people that want to join the Army.  In fact, between 1998 and 2010, the number of active-duty military personnel deemed overweight or obese has more than tripled.

According to the Washington Post, "during the first 10 months of 2012, the Army kicked out 1,625 soldiers for being unfit to fight."  That's about 15 times the number discharged for the same reason in 2007, the peak of wartime deployment cycles.

The solution?  The US Army is in the process of reexamining its training programs. I bet they will be looking at the military diets as well.
