However,  if you're a pet owner, it's important to consider how the eclipse may affect your furry companions.

Do Pets Need Eclipse Glasses?

According to NASA experts, there is no reason for pet owners to go out and buy eclipse glasses for their animals. Cats and dogs typically do not gaze at the sun on a regular day, so it's not very likely that they will during the solar eclipse. Angela Speck, co-chair of the National Solar Eclipse Task Force, assures pet owners that there is no need to worry about pets damaging their eyes during the eclipse.

Does the Sun Impact Pets?

While it's true that animals do not typically look directly at the sun on a regular day, the solar eclipse could cause them to be a bit confused. Some pets might mistakenly think it's dusk during the total solar eclipse which could cause them to prepare for their night-time routines. Pet owners should observe their pets and adjust their routines as necessary to help them feel secure during the eclipse.
