Like it or not, winter is coming. And winter in our area means snow and ice. Right now, they are looking to hire people to remove it all.

According to their website, the New York State Department of Transportation is looking to hire approximately 500 employees to work on New York's roads this winter. They are looking for permanent as well as seasonal employees to help clean the roadways during and after storms.

The 500 positions are spread out across the state with 38 of them being right here in our area. They are also looking for full-time mechanics to work on the Department of Transportation trucks and machinery.

According to the New York State Department of Transportation website, they say to apply you must be at least 18 years of age, pass a physical and a drug test, and have a clean and valid Class A or Class B commercial driver's license, and be certified to operate heavy dump trucks within two weeks of being hired. They say that training is available.

I don't need to tell you that state jobs not only pay well, but if you land a full-time job, you could be looking at great health benefits as well as retirement benefits. And with these jobs, it's very likely you will be working overtime depending on how many storms we see, and the duration of each storm.

Check out their website here for more information and on how to apply for these jobs.
