A suspect has been arrested in connection with eight armed robberies in the City of Binghamton and as many as seven additional armed robberies in Philadelphia.  29 year-old Darnell Watson was arrested by police in Philadelphia on Thursday afternoon at 5:51 PM.  Police took him into custody following a foot chase.

Watson is the prime suspect and is accused in the robbery of a Mirabito gas station at 53 Downs Avenue in Binghamton on Thursday morning at 9:13 AM.  Police have also accused him in the robbery of seven other business establishments in Binghamton over the last month.

Watson is facing similar charges in at least seven armed robberies in Philadelphia.  The Binghamton Police Detective Division, The Broome County Sheriff's Department, Philadelphia Police and the United States Marshal Service combined their efforts in the investigation.

No injuries were reported in any of the robberies.  Watson has no known permanent home address.  He is believed to have relatives in both the Binghamton area and Philadelphia.  Police also believe Watson committed the string of of robberies to support a drug addiction.

Watson has charges pending for Robbery in the 3rd Degree and an Arrest Warrant for Burglary in the 2nd Degree.  Additional charges are expected pending further investigation.  Watson remained in custody in Philadelphia on Friday afternoon.
