Local residents joined millions of others around the state and the nation in celebrating the start of a new year.  In Times Square in New York City hundreds of thousands of people gathered to watch one of he largest New Year's Eve celebrations in the world.  Cheers rang out as revelers joined in the countdown to "The Ball Drop"which occurred at exactly midnight.  Security was tight and no major problems were reported.

Locally, an announced crowd of close to 3,700 turned out for the traditional New Year's Eve hockey game at the Floyd L Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.  Binghamton teams have played home games on New Year's Eve going to back to the Broome Dusters years.

There were many other festivities around the area to welcome in 2020.  Social on State hosted a midnight ball drop and fireworks presented by Visions Federal Credit Union. Other celebrations leading up to the new year were held downtown.  In the Village of

Windsor First Knight 2020 was held.  It was the eighth annual First Knight celebration and featured a puppet parade, a kid's carnival, games for children and plenty of food.
