A Queens man is accused of trying to hide forbidden items while incarcerated in the Delaware County Jail.

Sheriff’s officials say 40-year-old Ramon Ortiz turned over a package containing tobacco he had hidden in his body after he was taken to Bassett Hospital to verify and medically remove any contraband.

Investigators say they received a report on March 9 that Ortiz, who was an inmate at the Delaware Jail at the time, was in possession of contraband allegedly concealed in his body.

Ortiz was charged Tuesday, March 15 with misdemeanor Promoting Prison Contraband.  He remains incarcerated on an unrelated federal charge.
