I Guess I Won’t Be Going Home for Thanksgiving Due To New Restrictions in PA

Well this confirms that I won't be going to Carbondale for Thanksgiving next week.

This afternoon, Pennsylvania Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine announced that anyone entering Pennsylvania from any other state must have a negative Covid-19 test within 72 hours prior to entering the state, or they must quarantine for two weeks after arriving according to  Penn Live. The report also states this includes Pennsylvania residents returning from other states.

Dr. Levine  did say that that order does not apply  to residents who cross state lines routinely for work. There are a lot of people  that live  just across the border in Pennsylvania that travel to New York for work and vice versa.

Even though Chris and I decided weeks ago to stay home in Endicott for Thanksgiving, there was still a part of me hoping to be able to head to my home town just for a little while over the holiday weekend to see my family, even if that meant that we all had to stand outside while remaining six feet apart. Even though there would be no hugs or handshakes, it would be nice to just see my siblings in person. Since the beginning of the pandemic, I have only seen them once on a live Zoom call.

I grew up in Northeastern Pennsylvania and most of my family still lives there. We usually spend Thanksgiving and Christmas at my family's homestead in Carbondale. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, I wasn't planning on spending the holidays there this year, but rather stay at home in Endicott with Chris and Ian. I haven't been down to see my family since February, and we weren't able to get together at Easter either because of Covid-19.
