Operation Safe Holiday Enforcement

The Holiday season is here, and with the long Thanksgiving weekend coming up, PennDOT and all law enforcement remind you to use your seatbelts and drive safe.

While the centers for Disease Control and Prevention says staying home is the best way to reduce your risk of COVID exposure, and protect others, traffic safety should always be top of mind when behind the wheel.

The State Police, along with PennDOT have started their Operation Safe Holiday campaign, with strict enforcements on consistent seat belt use.

We have all heard the term “Click IT or Ticket” and law enforcement officers will be watching to make sure drivers and passengers are wearing their seatbelts.

According to a press release from the Pennsylvania State Police, children under age 4 must be properly restrained in an approved child safety seat. Children under two must be secured in a rear-facing car seat until the child outgrows the maximum weight and height limits designated by the manufacturer. Booster seats are required for children ages four to eight to keep them protected in the event of a crash.

Drivers are also reminded to obey the “move over law” which requires vehicles to move over or slow down when an emergency vehicle is approaching or a disable vehicle is within their path.

The move over law helps clear the path and protects first responders, emergency vehicles and law enforcement officers.

Operations safe Holiday will officially begin on Wednesday November 25^th Thanks giving Eve, and continue through New Years Day.
