NY Attorney General Sues to Fight Postal Service Changes

New York state Attorney General Letitia James is going to court in an effort to prevent disruptions in mail service ahead of the November presidential election.

James has announced that she is leading a coalition of three states and two cities in filing a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

The attorney general criticized the Trump administration for actions she contends are part of an effort to undermine the election.

James said Postmaster General Louis DeJoy has overseen moves to scale back operations that would adversely affect the ability of the postal service to handle mail-in ballots.

DeJoy has denied the changes that have been implemented are designed to harm the ability to process election mail.

The attorney generals of New Jersey and Hawaii are joining the New York state lawsuit. New York City and San Francisco also are part of the coalition initiating the legal action.
