This story breaks my heart not only for all the kids will be affected unless as a community we all step up and help but also because Toys for Tots is near and dear to my heart.

For the past six years, I've been involved in collecting toy donations for Toys for Tots. The thought that there are kids who's parents or guardians have hit hard times and won't know the joy of unwrapping a gift Christmas morning kills me.

On Friday morning, a fire ripped through The Storage Center in the town of Norwich, destroying roughly $8,000 worth of toys that were to be given to local kids through the Chenango County Toys for Tots program.

Five area fire departments were called to the scene and the cause of fire is still being investigated.

If you and your family or business would like to help replace the lost toys, you can make a donation to Chenango County Toys for Tots, mail a check, made out to Toys for Tots to:

Roger Barnhart
107 Crest Drive
Bainbridge NY 13733

Or drop off new, unwrapped toys at:

Label Gallery
1-11 Lee Ave.
Norwich NY 13815

Please keep in mind that Toys for Tots prefers not to accept realistic looking weapons and gifts with food. If you donate one or both of these, they will not be donated to a local child.
