While states like New Jersey are planning to drop their mask mandates or leave masking policy in schools up to individual school districts due to a slowdown in pandemic infection rates, Pennsylvania’s COVID-19 rate is also slowing.

The Commonwealth reported over 79,000 new cases a week ago while the latest numbers from the Health Department on February 7 put new infections at 46,410.

There were 1,004 new deaths attributed over the week to COVID-19, bringing Pennsylvania’s pandemic death toll to 41,585.

In the Northern Tier, Bradford County had 312 new cases and three deaths for the week. Bradford’s pandemic case totals is at 14,368 and the death toll is at 188.

Last week, Bradford County had been listed on the Pennsylvania COVID-19 Dashboard as having one of the highest infection rates, portrayed on the map in red. That depicts 26,000-35,000 per 100,000 population. February 7, the county's color code had been backed off to a lighter salmon shade, two steps down to indicated infections of 22,000-24,000 per 100,00 of population.

Susquehanna had 115 new cases for a total of 7,416 and two additional deaths for a total of 102s while Wayne County had 171 new cases for a total of 9,736 and the death toll remains at 154.  Susquehanna and Wayne Counties are portrayed on the map in the lightest shade of tan indicating 15,000-20,000 infections per 100,000.
