A plasma donation facility in Endwell that was expected to start operating several months ago still hasn't opened.

CSL Plasma presented plans for the center at 519 Hooper Road to Town of Union officials about two years ago.

The company said it would use about 10,250 square feet of space that previously was occupied by a Volunteers of America thrift store. Plans for the $1.3 million renovation project called for the collection center to have 36 beds.

CSL Plasma has indicated it could eventually employ 50 people at the facility.

Construction work at the site was completed early last year. A CSL Plasma representative had said the office was expected to open in early September.

The lights are on and everything appears ready at the center but it has yet to become operational.

Some people who live nearby have heard the facility may finally open in May but a CSL Plasma representative this week was unable to provide a target date.

According to the company website, people can be paid up to $400 a month for donating plasma. The plasma collected is used to make products used for various medical therapies.
