Former Jets Star Nick Mangold Needs a Kidney and He’s Turning to New Yorkers for Help
If you’re a longtime New York football fan, chances are the name Nick Mangold rings a bell. He wasn’t just another player, he was a cornerstone of the New York Jets’ offensive line, a fan favorite, and one of those rare athletes who played with grit, loyalty, and heart. Now, that same heart is asking for help.
A Long-Term Diagnosis Now Reaches a Critical Point
Mangold recently revealed that he’s battling chronic kidney disease, the result of a genetic condition he was diagnosed with back in 2006. This past summer, things took a serious turn. He began undergoing dialysis while searching for a kidney donor with Type O blood. In his own words, he knew this day would eventually come, but hoped he had more time.
A Former Protector Now Turns to the Public for Help
What makes this story especially emotional is that Nick doesn’t currently have any family members who are able to donate. So, he’s doing something incredibly brave: He’s asking the public, Jets Nation, Ohio State fans, and really anyone willing to listen, to step forward and see if they could be a match. For someone who spent his career protecting others on the field, it’s humbling to see him now putting his trust in strangers.
