How To Get A Peek Of The Super Moon Eclipse In The Southern Tier

If the full moon and a total lunar eclipse are your thing, then you are going to love this weekend. The first lunar eclipse of 2022 will be taking place this weekend and it looks like we'll be able to see it in the Southern Tier of New York...if you don't mind staying up late.

The partial eclipse begins on Sunday, May 15th at 10:28 p.m. A total lunar eclipse happens as the full moon moves into the deep umbral shadow of the Earth. The full moon on May 15th is a so-called supermoon because of its striking red appearance.

That's when the full moon is the closest to Earth during the month, making it a Super Flower Blood Moon eclipse. The Super Flower Blood Moon is a larger-appearing, red-tinted full moon in the sky.

If you have the chance to see it, you notice that it gets gradually dark and then will turn red. It will peak early Monday morning, May 16th at 12:11 a.m. with the event ending at 1:55 a.m.

According to WBNG, Sunday night is expected to be partly coudy, so it's a little touch and go as to if we'll be able to see it or not. However, if you are clouded out but want to see the event, you can go here to watch it online.
