New York State Fair Announces First Free Concert of 2022
If you're a fan of old-school rap and of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, you're going to love the most recent announcement made by organizers of the Great New York State Fair.
It hasn't even been three months since the 2021 Great New York State Fair wrapped up but those in charge of operations have already been hard at work preparing for the 2022 Fair and on Monday, December 7, they announced some information regarding the first free Chevy Park act as well as new times for concerts at Chevy Park.
Art of Rap is the name of the act that will kick off the Fair concert season at Chevy Park and it features Ice-T and co-founder Mick Benzo. Art of Rap will perform on the Chevy Park stage on Thursday, August 25, 2022, at 8:00 p.m. Concerts performed on the Chevy Park stage will continue to be free to attend with your paid admission to the Fair.
Ice-T began his career as an underground rapper in the 1980s and in 1987, he was signed to Sire Records. Since the 1980s, Ice-T has released eight studio albums, ten compilation albums, 51 singles, and 80 music videos.
Today, Ice-T is best known for playing the role of "Fin" Tutuola on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. Ice-T's Tutuola character is the fourth-longest running prime-time live-action character of all time and has been part of the show since 2000.
In an announcement on its website, Troy Waffner, Fair Director, said, “Ice-T is a historic rap musician and Art of Rap Featuring Ice-T and co-founder Mick Benzo is a great way to kick off our announcements for the Fair’s concert schedule."
In addition to the announcement of Art of Rap as a Chevy Park performance, Fair organizers also announced that evening concert times at Chevy Court will change in 2022. In 2021, shows were at 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., but the 8:00 p.m. shows meant that people wanting to see both the concert at Chevy Park and the one at Chevy Court had to pick one, not both because concerts happened simultaneously. In 2022, the later concerts at Chevy Court will be held at 6:00 p.m. which will allow attendees to see both concerts if they'd like to.
The Great New York State Fair will return to the fairgrounds in Syracuse from August 24, 2022, to September 5, 2022.
