New York Parents Say Screens Are Hurting Reading
The end of summer is here and that means that it's almost time for the kids to head back to school. With the beginning of the school year, a new report from 95 Percent Group has come out with some troubling news. It says that most parents and teachers in New York think tablets and phones are making it harder for kids to enjoy reading.
Kids Don’t Like Reading as Much
It's hard to get our children to read if they don't enjoy doing it in the first place. The new study shows that nine out of ten parents and teachers say screen time has made kids less interested in reading books.
Hard to Focus on a Book
Eight out of ten say kids have trouble staying focused from the beginning of a book to the end. They often lose interest or get distracted. Some parents think digital books can help kids who don’t like to read. More than half say e-books might be helpful for those kids.

Screens Can Still Distract
Even with e-books, many kids get distracted. Almost seven out of ten parents say their kids lose focus when reading on a screen. You can help by turning off screens during reading time. Pick a quiet spot, read with your child, or visit your local library to find fun books.
