Did you know that otters have a cool little pouch on their body where they can keep all sorts of stuff, including their favorite rock? Clearly, I birthed an otter.

Kids go through phases where they're interested in something and its all consuming. My son is in the rocks and minerals stage. He likes to look at rocks and minerals, touch them, think about them, sleep with them under his pillow, and stick them in his pocks so if he gets a craving, he can reach his little hand into his pocket and feel them.

Honestly, I love this phase because we're homeschoolers and learning about rocks and minerals is super fun. Learning about rock carrying otters is super cool. Being able to combine and interest with learning is simply the best.

Whether you're a card carrying mineral and fossil lover, a secret lover, or a parent looking for a way to engage your child in a fun form of learning, I think I've got just the thing for you!

The New York Southern Tier Geology Club is hosting its 52nd Mineral and Fossil Show at the Johnson City Senior Center on Brocton Street in Johnson City on Saturday, April 2 and Sunday, April 3.

This is a family friendly show and it will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is $4.00 per person over the age of 12 with children 12 and younger invited into the show for free.

At the Mineral and Fossils Show, there will be vendors, an ultra violet display, a flintknapping display, and even a scavenger hunt for kids.

You can learn more about both the New York Southern Tier Geology Club and its Mineral and Fossils Show here and perhaps my family will see you there!
