New York Is One of the Biggest Formula 1 Fan States
Formula 1 has exploded in popularity in recent years. Between the Netflix series, new races in the United States, more Americans are following the sport and New York is one of the biggest Formula 1 fan states in the country.
A new study looked at Google searches across the United States to see which states are most interested in F1. The results show that New Yorkers are searching for Formula 1 info more than most other states.
New York Ranks Second in the Country for F1 Interest
The study looked at which states are looking for Formula 1 topics the most. Here’s what they found: California, 450,000 searches per month, New York, 201,000 searches per month, Illinois, 120,000 searches per month, New Jersey, 110,000 searches per month, and Georgia, 95,000 searches per month.
Surprisingly, Some Race States Didn’t Make the List
You might expect states that host Formula 1 races to dominate the rankings. The United States hosts three F1 races each year in Las Vegas, Miami, and Austin, Texas. But, Nevada, Florida, and Texas didn’t make the top ten for Formula 1 fans interest based on search data.
Some F1 Tracks Are Instantly Recognizable
The study also looked at how well fans recognize Formula 1 race tracks. Researchers used results from a quiz where they had to identify all 24 tracks on the 2026 Formula 1 calendar just by looking at their map outlines.

The Monza Circuit in Italy came in first, with 95.8% of quiz participants correctly identifying it. At the other end of the list was Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City. Only 85.7% participants correctly identified that track.
Formula 1’s Popularity Keeps Growing
With more races in the United States and growing TV coverage, Formula 1 is bringing in new fans. Based on search data, New York is clearly one of the states where interest in the sport is growing the fastest.
