A Rhode Island-based retailer has announced it is almost ready to open its new operation in the Johnson City building that had been home to Toys R Us.

Ocean State Job Lot plans to start operations at 416 Harry L. Drive on Thursday.

The company says the Broome County store will be its 15th store in New York state and the 146th in the northeastern United States.

The Toys R Us store had operated at the site for nearly three decades. It closed three years ago.

Ocean State Job Lot describes itself as "a leading discount closeout retailer." It opened its first store in Rhode Island in 1977.

The company acquired the 45,255-square-foot Johnson City building for $1 million in February.
