May was Mental Health Awareness Month but this is something that should remain on our minds all of the time, so the Mental Health Association of the Southern Tier (MHAST) is offering "Mental Health First Aid" and "Youth Mental Health First Aid" training.

It'll be happening at MHAST, 47 Broad Avenue in Binghamton. They are one day courses and are open to the public. You must attend the full class to get your certification and it is good for three years. It's an eight hour training course and is only $90 with discounts available for non-profits and students.

The Mental Health First Aid Training is this Wednesday, June 6th from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Youth Mental Health First Aid Training is next Wednesday from 8:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

MHAST does so many great things in our area and it isn't always easy because their budget keeps getting cut and it makes it tougher to help those in real need. You can see a physical problem but what's on the inside is tougher.

These courses teach us how to assist someone who is having a mental health crisis or a mental health problem. This can help save lives in ways that you may not have thought about before.
