An Oneonta-area man is in custody following an assault that sent the victim to the hospital.

New York State Police say they took 29-year-old Anthony Masi into custody January 5, six days after a machete attack at an Oneonta motel.

Troopers say they were called to the Budget Inn on Route 23 at around 6 p.m. December 30 with a report of a woman bleeding.  Authorities say they found the victim bleeding profusely from a large cut on her nose and she was taken to Bassett Hospital, then transferred to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse for surgery.

State Police say Masi is charged with felony Assault.

The investigation is continuing.
