Man Accused of Stealing Woman’s Poker Chips at Tioga Downs
Police say Tioga Downs Casino surveillance video shows a man taking hundreds of dollars worth of poker chips that belonged to a woman.
Authorities say the Pennsylvania resident suspected of stealing the chips turned himself in at the New York State Police Owego station on Tuesday.
53-year-old Edward Gallis of Olyphant was charged with petit larceny.
Investigators say Gallis is accused in an incident that was reported on May 9. A woman apparently advised a dealer she was leaving her chips at the table while she went to dinner.
After the dealers changed, Gallis is said to have placed his poker chips on the edge of the table and knocked them over. On the video, he apparently can be seen purloining the chips that weren't his.
Police say several hundred dollars worth of chips were involved in the incident.
Gallis was contacted by an investigator last month and arrangements were made for him to turn himself in to face the charge. He is scheduled to appear in Nichols town court on July 24.
