LUMA Fest May Not Happen This Year After All

Earlier this month, the LUMA Projection Arts Festival released their plans for this year's Festival in downtown Binghamton. Because of the Coronavirus pandemic, they were planning on making this year's version available online for the first time so people could view the amazing artwork from their homes in case mass gatherings where still prohibited in early September.

But according to LUMA's Facebook page, the economic fallout as a result of COVID-19 might keep them from putting on the show this year after all.

The post stated that some of the sponsors that have already committed to this year's event have been so negatively impacted by COVID-19, that they were unable to fulfill their commitments financially. And worse yet, LUMA was so far into the creation of this year's event, that they might not be able to survive financially going forward with the loss of the sponsorship money.

Joshua Bernard, one of the organizers of the event, stated that they are still doing everything they can to find more sponsors who want to see this event continue and that will be able to help them out financially.

LUMA has taken place the last five years on the buildings in downtown Binghamton. On average, LUMA Fest drew 30,000 people to downtown Binghamton annually. LUMA also attracts media attention from all across the U.S. and even Europe.

If LUMA is unable to go this year, it would be devastating for hotels, restaurants, and shops in the Binghamton area that are still struggling financially due to the impact of the Coronavirus.
