PETA Calls Out Luke Bryan for Gifting His Wife Baby Kangaroos
The organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has publicly condemned country superstar Luke Bryan for gifting his wife two baby kangaroos for Christmas. After both Bryan and his wife Caroline posted photos of the handsome pair on Instagram, causing quite a stir online, the animal rights organization stepped in to make a statement, and offer to help the couple right what PETA sees as a wrong.
PETA's statement appears on the organization's website under the headline "Luke Bryan Should Send Christmas Kangaroos to a Sanctuary." The statement explains that "[b]aby kangaroos belong in their mothers’ pouches, not in gift bags."
"These joeys have complex needs, including specialized diets and room to roam — they are not toys and will only become more difficult to care for as they grow older," the statement continues. "PETA is calling for an investigation into where these kangaroos came from and stands ready to help Luke Bryan right this wrong and move these vulnerable marsupials to a reputable sanctuary."
The Bryans plan to raise the baby joeys at Brett's Barn, a farm established in memory of Caroline's late niece. The state of Tennessee does not regulate the private ownership of some exotic animals (including kangaroos), according to the website Born Free USA.
