It takes a very special kind of person to work with cancer patients. Especially when those patients are just little kids.

Yesterday, some of the staff at Albany Medical Center's Melodies Center for Childhood Cancers did something that went way above and beyond for one little girl fighting cancer. They fulfilled her wish to get married to her favorite nurse, Matt Hickling.

According to Matt’s Facebook page, his patient’s mom reached out to him on Wednesday saying they were looking forward to seeing him at clinic because her daughter was excited to get married to him. Matt was completely caught off guard, but wanted to make the little girl’s dream come true, so he didn’t waste a minute putting plans into action.

With only a day to prepare, Matt got "married" to his patient on Thursday in front of most of the Melodies Center staff. The young girl walked in over rose petals, and was given away by her mom. Hospital staff served as bridesmaids and a doctor played the role of officiant and there was even a ring bearer.

The little girl shyly asked Matt to marry her and there wasn't any hesitation before he said "yes." She gave him a big hug and they sealed the deal with ring pops before taking a stroll down the hall in their "just married" car. Showing them right off the bat who the boss of their "marriage" is, the patient rode in the car while Matt pushed it. The event concluded with cake (which the patient slammed in Matt’s face) and photos.

Matt says that the little girl stated "this is the best day ever" while she hopped around in her dress and veil. Grab some tissues and then watch this:
