The man who fatally shot a Johnson City restaurant owner remains at large.

Village police say the man who was killed was 50-year-old Shakeel Khan of Johnson City.

Khan reportedly was shot multiple times as he closed the Halal Bites restaurant at 652 Riverside Drive around 10 p.m. Saturday. He died a short time later at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City.

Investigators say the shooter's face was covered by a dark mask. They say Khan was unarmed.

According to a GoFundMe page created by the Islamic Organization of the Southern Tier, Khan leaves behind a wife, a 14-year-old daughter, a 12-year-old son and an 8-year-old son. The children attend Vestal schools.

The information posted on the GoFundMe page indicates Khan moved to Broome County from Brooklyn one year ago "to establish a business and to raise his kids in a better environment and neighborhood."

Detectives have not said whether they have identified a suspect in the shooting. Police Chief Brent Dodge earlier said investigators were looking for "at least one male suspect of unknown race."

People with information about the shooting may contact Johnson City police at 607.729.9321.
