September Baseball: When Binghamton Won It All in 2014
As the Rumble Ponies won their first playoff game, many Binghamton baseball fans were remembering the celebration that erupted when the B-Mets became Eastern League champions nine years ago.
The Binghamton Mets defeated the Richmond Flying Squirrels 2-1 in the third game of a best-of-five series on September 12, 2014.
NYSEG Stadium erupted with cheers and the sound of fireworks as the B-Mets scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning.
There was electricity in the air at the city-owned ballpark - now named Mirabito Stadium - Tuesday night as the Binghamton Rumble Ponies defeated the Somerset Patriots 9-2 to start the Northeast Division Series. Binghamton scored six runs in the fourth inning.
The best-of-three series continues Thursday evening in Bridgewater, New Jersey. Pregame coverage will start at 6:20 p.m. on WNBF 92.1 FM and 1290 AM.
