Oakdale Commons in Johnson City: Developer Reveals What’s Next
There have been plenty of changes to the old Oakdale Mall as part of its transformation into the Oakdale Commons - but some big announcements about the site are coming.
A 99,000-square-foot BJ's Wholesale Club opened its doors a few days ago. The 140,000-square-foot Dick's House of Sport has been in operation since last August.
A Dave & Busters restaurant also is being developed at the Johnson City complex. Marc Newman, a development partner, said the business now is expected to open "sometime over the summer." He told WNBF News that he doesn't know the exact opening dates but he expects it will likely be around July.
Dave & Busters will occupy a 25,000-square-foot space near Lourdes Health and Fitness on the north side of the property at Reynolds Road and Harry L. Drive.
Speaking on the Binghamton Now program, Newman said the next phase of the transformation will focus on the west side of the site. He said future announcements may deal with elements not related to retail, although he declined to be more specific.
Newman said a residential component of the Oakdale Commons has been "looked at." He said "it's a possibility at some point" but not right away.
Newman said he anticipates additional major announcements about the future will be forthcoming soon to turn what had been a half-century-old retail complex into a "full mixed-use facility."
