New York’s Most Googled Car Is a Popular SUV
New Yorkers appear to have one vehicle on their minds. New research found that the Honda CR-V was the most searched car model in New York, with almost 50,000 Google searches each month.
Searches Do Not Equal Sales
The results show online interest, not the number of vehicles sold, registered, or owned. People may search for a car because they want to buy one, compare prices, read reviews, find parts, or learn more about it.
How the Study Worked
Car Mats Customs used Google Keyword Planner to study 175 car related search terms in all 50 states. The company used monthly search numbers collected in August 2026. The model with the most searches in each state was named that state’s most Googled car.
New York Shares Its Pick
The Honda CR-V was also the top searched model in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. New York had much more search activity, with 49,500 monthly searches compared with 18,100 in Massachusetts and 2,400 in Rhode Island.
The Honda Civic Won the Most States
Across the country, the Honda Civic finished first in 15 states, more than any other model. The Ford F-150 followed with wins in 12 states. The Toyota Camry led in 10 states, while the Toyota RAV4 won six.
California Chose an Electric Vehicle
California was the only state where an electric vehicle took first place. The Tesla Model Y received an estimated 135,000 searches per month, the highest single search total in the study.
Seven Models Led the Country
Only seven different vehicles finished first across the 50 states. The results show that drivers in different parts of the country have different interests. In New York, the Honda CR-V came out on top.
