Johnson City Park Makeover Nears Completion

Workers are putting the finishing touches on an improvement project at a high-profile project in Johnson City.

The $1.4 million makeover of the village park at Main Street and Lester Avenue got underway about a year ago.

The site - which had been known as E.J. Theme Park - has been renamed Workers Park.

Joshua Holland, Johnson City's director of public services, said the park improvement project is "largely done."

Hydroseeding work was performed at the park this week. Picnic and chess tables are to be installed in a covered pavilion area soon.

A century-old statue of Harry L. Johnson last year was moved from a spot on the side of Your Home Public Library to a more visible location near Main Street.

What had been a rather plain-looking park has been spruced up with new swings, lighting and walkways.

G. DeVincentis & Son Construction Company of Binghamton is the project general contractor.
