Then and now. I love looking at the progression of the Southern Tier. It's a landscape that will always be changing.

Over the past few years, I've looked at then and now with the Vestal Parkway, Downtown Binghamton, Upper Front Street, Downtown Norwich, and a few others through the lens of Google Maps Street View.

My only wish is that Google Maps had been around for decades. I'd love to compare photos from decades gone past with today. Oh well.

This time around, I thought it would be cool to check out the ever-changing Oakdale area of Johnson City. You know, from the Oakdale Mall to the Oakdale Commons.

Fortunately,  Google Maps has been through the area recently, showing the changes so far, depending on the area of the massive building that I still refer to as 'The Mall.' It's hard to get out of the habit and into replacing 'Mall' with Çommons.' I'll get there...eventually.

As you know, the Oakdale Commons is a massive work in progress, and that's a good thing, especially when we hear and see so many malls around the country being shuttered. That sure isn't happening here. The transformation will continue and that's exciting.

There have been many new additions inside and outside the Oakdale Commons and more are to come. Here are a few shots of 'then and now' around the outside of the Oakdale Mall/Commons that the Google Maps Street View was able to capture.

Oh yeah, I also included after the photos, a great video from our friend Frank Palmisano who always does an amazing job photographing and videoing on the ground and in the air of the Southern Tier of New York. Check out his YouTube channel for all the great work he does.
