New York City Has Some of America’s Worst Post Offices
If you have ever left a New York City post office feeling frustrated, you are clearly not alone. A new study found that the city has some of the worst reviewed post offices in the country.
New York City Ranks Eighth in the Nation
The study ranked New York City eighth among major U.S. cities with the worst post offices. Researchers studied nearly 216,000 Google reviews for 1,235 post offices in 58 cities. They looked for complaints about long lines, slow service, employees, lost mail, and package problems.
Complaints Appear in Almost Half of Reviews
Complaints were found in 43% of reviews for New York City post offices. The average for all cities in the study was 37%. The three words that appeared most often in New York City complaints were “rude,” “line,” and “worst.”
New York Ranks First for Staff Complaints
New York City ranked first in the country for complaints about rude, unhelpful, or unprofessional workers. That does not mean every postal worker or every location provides poor service. The ranking is based only on the Google reviews included in the study.
These Three Locations Had the Most Complaints
The post office at 521 West 146th Street had complaints in 59% of its reviews. It had a rating of 1.5 stars based on 494 reviews. The location at 217 West 140th Street had complaints in 58% of its reviews. It also had a 1.5-star rating based on 214 reviews. The post office at 518 West 181st Street had complaints in 58% of its reviews. Its rating was 1.5 stars based on 445 reviews.

One Location Stands Above the Rest
The city’s best reviewed post office in the study was at 70 West 10th Street. That location had a rating of 3.7 stars based on 85 reviews. Still, complaints appeared in 21% of its reviews.
The Study Only Covered New York City
The ranking looked at cities, not entire states. This means the results do not show how post offices in Upstate New York or other parts of the state are doing. The post office's that I have dealt with in the Southern Tier have no complaint from me.
