WATCH: Ithaca Football Team Gets HYPED For Familiar Face Head Coach
I always enjoy hearing stories about people coming back home and this is certainly one of them. His name is Michael Toerper and the Ithaca Bomber Football team has got their guy. He's returning to the Ithaca area as their new head coach
One of Toerper's attributes is that he knows the value of hard work. As a player, he was a walk-on for Division I Pittsburgh Panthers. He would earn his scholarship and saw action in over 35 games over 3 seasons as a defensive back and special teams player.
As a coach, he spent time at John Hopkins University, As a part of the staff, the Blue Jays won the Centennial Conference championship for all seven seasons that Toerper was part of the coaching staff.
He was also a safeties coach at Division I Holy Cross and helped turn the Crusader's defenses into one of the best units in the FCS in 2021. Between his stints between John Hopkins and Holy Cross, he was a part of the Ithaca College program.
He served as the defensive coordinator for the Bombers from 2017 to 2019. Dan Swanstrom was the Ithaca headman but left after five seasons to become the offensive coordinator at the University of Pennsylvania.

This was Toerper's opportunity and now he's back to lead the team as their new head coach. After an extensive national search, the Bombers got their guy.
His wife, Leigh was a former track and field star at Ithaca and graduated in 2015. Toerper will officially begin his duties on March 1st.
