High winds are associated with a warm front bringing heavy rain to the region through May with gusts April 29 exceeding 30 miles per hour.

A tree was brought down on Burr Avenue on the Southside of Binghamton at around 11 p.m. April 29, knocking out power to hundreds of residents.  New York State Electric and Gas reported power out in Vestal and parts of the City of Binghamton.  Only a few scattered power outages were reported in outlying areas early in the morning.

Winds were being recorded gusting at 38 miles per hour at the National Weather Service in Binghamton at 4 a.m. April 30.

Motorists who do have to be out are reminded to slow down and keep a firm grip on the steering wheel, especially those driving the higher-profile vehicles.

Residents should also secure all outdoor items that may be blown away including garbage cans, recycle bins and lawn decorations.

According to the latest forecasts, winds are expected to continue to gust at or over 30 miles an hour before subsiding overnight April 30
