A major high school basketball tournament just gave a big boost to the local economy in Binghamton. The New York State Public High School Athletic Association Boys Basketball Championship took place from March 19th through March 22nd at the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena. According to numbers, it made a big impact on the community.

Thousands of Visitors Filled the City

Over the four-day event, more than 17,800 people came to the area. That includes players, coaches, families, and fans from all across New York and beyond. Hotels filled up, restaurants stayed busy, and local shops saw more customers.The tournament brought in over $1.5 million in total spending. This is a big deal and helps during a slower time of the year.

Local Leaders Say It’s a Win for the Community

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar said bringing in thousands of visitors creates a great atmosphere and helps support the local economy. Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham added that the event not only supports businesses but also shines a spotlight on the city and its ability to host large events.
