I can't believe that it's been over ten years since it's been here and I'm so glad it's coming back. The Great Race is coming to downtown Binghamton on Sunday, June 19th.

For the first time since 2011, the cross-country road rally will be coming to Broome County. I was fortunate enough to be able to ride in one of the classic cars when they were here in 2011 and I was able to ride from Norwich to Binghamton.

For those who don't know exactly how the Great Race works, it's not based on how fast you can get from Point A to Point B but you need to get from one place to another in a certain amount of time. You are penalized if you get there too fast or too slow.

I felt a little bad because I was chatting with the driver and navigator and probably threw off their concentration on the task at hand. It was a great experience and am thrilled that it's coming back to our area.

This is a cross-country rally that begins in Warwick, Rhode Island on June 18th, and should end in Fargo, North Dakota on June 26th. It'll have over 150 classic cars from the 1900s to the 70s. The Great Race is scheduled to come to the Binghamton area on Sunday, June 19th.

The Great Race Returns To Binghamton

The finish line is in front of the Broome County Courthouse with festivities to follow after the race. You'll have a chance to see the vintage vehicles up close and personal. A Cruise-In for local classic cars is being planned to coincide with the arrival of the Great Race Cars beginning at 3 p.m.

The Great Race participants will start to arrive around 4:30 p.m. and will stick around until 7:30 p.m. In 2011, Binghamton was named the "Best Host City" by the Great Race and with your help, we'll do it again.

You can go here to see all the locations that the Great Race will be stopping at. I'm hoping to have a chance to ride along again this year. Robin Alpaugh is the co-chair of the event in Binghamton. Hey Robin, do you have any room in your vehicle for me?

When these classic cars come to town, we hope they don't have to drive through these intersections.
