Governor Wolf Orders Pa. Schools Closed for Rest of Year

School buildings in Pennsylvania will remain closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 academic year due to the coronavirus pandemic. 

Although the schools are closed, teaching is continuing remotely and meals continue to be provided at designated sites. The Pennsylvania Department of Education has secure resources to help schools that need them that are not currently using online platforms.  The additional support and resources are being offered to those districts at no cost.

The decision applies to all Pennsylvania public K through 12 schools, brick and mortar and cyber charter schools, private and parochial schools, career and technical centers and intermediate units.  Colleges and universities in Pennsylvania may not resume in-person instruction or reopen their physical locations until the order is lifted.

Under the directive, schools can begin summer programming on the day after their academic year ends.

In New York, Governor Andrew Cuomo is still at odds with New York City’s mayor and possibly other public officials on whether or not to reopen schools in the Empire State before the end of the academic year.

The Democrat says he is talking to Mayor Bill de Blasio and the Governors of New Jersey and Connecticut to coordinate school and business openings.
