Gary Marshall, Creator of ‘Happy Days’ Dies at 81
Growing up, I loved Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley and Mork & Mindy. It was fun and light hearted. What did they have in common? Gary Marshall. He not only did TV but the movies too.
Recently Traci and I were talking about movies that we liked as kids. One of my favorites was "Nothing In Common."
It was the last movie Jackie Gleason did and co-stars one of my favorite actors before he was famous, Tom Hanks. It was also directed by none other then Gary Marshall.
Traci said that the very first movie she watched without her mom’s permission was Pretty Woman. She was 10 years old when it came out and it was a sleepover. They rented the video store without asking anyone.
It’s still one of her favorite movies and she's watched it over 200 times. That movie was also directed by Gary Marshall.
If you haven't heard Gary died yesterday (7/19) at the age of 81 of complications from pneumonia following a stroke. His sister was Penny Marshall who played Laverne in Laverne & Shirley.
Marshall is survived of his wife of over 50 years as well as three kids, two sisters and six grand-kids. Funeral services will be private, but plans are underway for a memorial service on Marshall’s birthday, November 13th.
Thank you Gary for the memories....and the laughs.
