Free Medical, Dental, Vision, and Pet Care Coming to Broome County
This August, Broome County residents will have a rare and truly special opportunity to get access to free healthcare services, yes, free.
Thanks to a unique partnership between Broome County, the U.S. Department of Defense, and the U.S. Military’s Reserve Forces, the Healthy Broome initiative is bringing vital medical, dental, optometry, behavioral health, and even veterinary services right here to our backyard.
From August 11 to August 20, 2025, military service members will be set up at SUNY Broome Community College’s Ice Center, ready to serve you and your pets.
No Insurance? No Problem. Just Show Up
One of the best parts of Healthy Broome is its simplicity. These services are completely free, and there’s no insurance or documentation required. You don’t need an appointment either. It’s all walk-in, and it’s first-come, first-served each day.
Whether you need a checkup, a dental cleaning, glasses, or your cat needs a vet visit, this is your chance to take care of it without worrying about the cost. Dogs and cats are welcome for veterinary services; however, please leave your exotic pets at home.
Why the Military Is Behind This
The program is part of the Department of Defense’s Innovative Readiness Training (IRT), which gives military personnel hands-on training while supporting the communities they serve. It’s a win-win: service members get real-world medical experience, and Broome County residents get access to free, quality care.
“Healthy Broome is an incredible opportunity to bring quality health services directly to the people of our community,” said County Executive Jason Garnar. “
SUNY Broome: The Heart of It All
The Ice Center at SUNY Broome is where all the action will take place, and SUNY Broome’s own campus will become a temporary home for over 130 military service members donating their time and skills.

“We are honored to host the IRT at SUNY Broome this summer,” said SUNY Broome President Dr. Tony Hawkins. “This event provides vital support to our community.”

Mark Your Calendar
Plan to stop by SUNY Broome’s Ice Center between August 11 and August 20. It’s not every day the military sets up shop in Broome County to offer no-cost care, and this is your chance to benefit.
