Former Binghamton DMV Office to Be Demolished

A building that had housed a DMV office in Binghamton's First Ward may be torn down to make way for a new warehouse operation.

The property at 181 Clinton Street has been vacant for more than three years. The Binghamton DMV office was moved to the bus station site on Chenango Street downtown.

An entity affiliated with Rogers Service Group, MM 187 LLC, has offered to buy the abandoned building and an adjacent lot for $25,000. The company already owns a vacant lot to the west of the site.

The proposed sale was approved by the Broome County legislature's finance committee last week. The deal could be voted on by the full legislature this Thursday.

Rogers Service Group vice president Ron Rogers declined to comment Monday on what the company hopes to do with the property.

But a person familiar with the plans said the old DMV building is to be demolished in preparation for additional warehousing for Rogers Service Group. The new operation could result in the creation of about five jobs.

Broome County acquired the former bank building for $110,000 in March 2000. It was used for the DMV office for nearly 14 years.

Pyramid Brokerage Company of Binghamton originally listed the building at $196,000.
