Family & Children’s Counseling Announces Binghamton Expansion

Family & Children’s Counseling Services is expanding its Binghamton Facility on Main Street.

In announcing the expansion, officials said due to increasing demand for mental health and addiction services, the agency is constructing a 9,000-square-foot, two-story building next to and connected with its longtime home base in Binghamton.

Officials say the bigger space at 257 Main Street will help to provide better services and accessibility to members of the community needing help.

The new space will allow for a client-centered, integrated redesign of operations. Additional space is to be created to make it easier for people to get to counselors and other services as some services are actually consolidated and made more efficient

The plans call for multiple waiting rooms, and upgraded Internet Technology infrastructure, and, in the wake of the health concerns coming out of the coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic, an enhanced heating, ventilation, air conditioning and air filtration system is being installed in the expanded facility.

Family & Children’s Counseling Services has secured around $4 million of the $5 million overall cost of the project from the New York State Department of Health.  Another $600,000 is coming from a New York State Assembly Grant. Additional support is coming from Broome County and the City of Binghamton.

FCCS officials say funding opportunities are available to underwrite the remaining costs of the expansion.

The groundbreaking for the project is planned for later this year.

Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo, Broome County Executive Jason Garnar and Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham joined Family & Children’s Counseling Services officials and business leaders at the June 23^rd expansion announcement.
