Why 76% of New Yorkers Face the Sunday Scaries
You know that funny feeling that seemingly appears out of nowhere when Sunday night rolls around? Everything is fine and then BAM, a feeling of depression overtakes you. Well, you are not alone!
According to a survey by Solitaired, over 75% of us in the Empire State experience what's known as the "Sunday Scaries." The Sunday Scaries are that mix of dread and anxiety that hits as the weekend winds down.
Sunday Scaries: A Statewide Epidemic
For the most part, it doesn't matter where you work including legal services, education, construction, or real estate. If that's you, the chances are you have felt the Sunday Scaries looming overhead. On the flip side, if you are in the arts, non-profits, and retail business, you seem to catch a bit of a break from the Sunday night blues.
Happiness Matters
Here is something that I never thought about before but it makes perfect sense. The more unhappy you are at work, the stronger the Sunday Scaries hit you! According to the survey, over 90% of people who are "very unhappy" with their jobs feel the full force of the Sunday Scaries. So, maybe finding some joy in what you do, can help take the edge off those Sunday night nerves.
How Do We Cope?
When it comes to dealing with the Sunday Scaries, most of us turn to watching our favorite sport shows or listening to music, to give some relief from the coming workweek. According to the study, other people scroll through social media but I find that makes me feel even more depressed.
I least you know that your not alone when it comes to the Sunday Scaries, now you know that you've got plenty of company here in New York.
