Authorities say a 21-year-old man was under the influence of meth when the stolen pickup truck he was driving slammed into a car that seriously injured an Endwell woman.

According to the Broome County district attorney's office, Brandon Carlson of Endwell on Monday pleaded guilty to vehicular assault in connection with the October 11 crash.

The owner of a Ram truck was seriously hurt on Squires Avenue in Endicott when the vehicle ran over his leg as Carlson drove away.

A state trooper began chasing the pickup truck after an alert was issued for the vehicle. Carlson continued driving at a high rate of speed. The eastbound truck smashed into a compact Chevrolet sedan on Country Club Road at Stark Avenue.

The driver of the car - 83-year-old Eileen Patch - sustained multiple injuries. She was hospitalized for several days after the crash.

In addition to the vehicular assault charge, Carlson pleaded guilty to attempted criminal possession of stolen property, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and driving while ability impaired by drugs.

Under the plea deal, Carlson is to be sentenced to up to 2 1/3 to 7 years in state prison. Sentencing is scheduled for September 7.

This story was updated to correct the age of Eileen Patch.
