Investigators are working to determine what happened before a person was shot during a dispute in Endicott.

Village police were called to a single-family resident at 1703 East Main Street around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday to investigate a shooting that followed an argument.

The person who was wounded was taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City.

Endicott police chief Patrick Garey said the person initially was reported to be in stable condition.

Garey said detectives have determined that there had been some type of dispute earlier in the day. It appeared others became involved in the argument prior to the shooting.

Garey Wednesday afternoon said "we're moving forward" with the investigation but he declined to provide additional information about the shooting.

Endicott police investigators were assisted at the scene by New York State Police.

The Roosevelt Avenue ramp from East Main Street was closed for several hours because of the investigation.
