As Team USA gears up for the Paris Summer Olympics with the Track & Field trials begin this Friday, June 21st, the Southern Tier is bursting with pride at the journey of one of our own.

Emily Mackay, a Union-Endicott graduate, and Binghamton University alum, is set to make her mark on the track as she competes in the 1500m trials.

In a recent showcase at the Adrian Martinez Classic earlier this month, Mackay displayed her athleticism by clinching the top spot in the 800m event. Her phenomenal time of 1:57.87 not only stands as the fastest record time this season in the 800m by an American woman but is also a huge milestone because it marks the first time Mackay has broken the revered 2:00 minute mark in the 800m - a personal best achievement for the Bearcat grad.

Mackay's triumphs do not end there. In March of 2024, our hometown athlete secured a bronze medal for the 1500m at the World Indoor Track & Field Championships held in Glasgow, Scotland. Her remarkable time of 4:02.69 in the 1500m was not only proof of her hard work and dedication but also a personal best record.

As we rally around Emily Mackay on her Olympic journey, the Southern Tier couldn't be more proud and filled with such immense pride to witness the stellar achievements of our hometown athlete. Go Emily and go Team USA!
