We’ve all been dumped. We’ve all hit a low point at one time. We have all stared in the mirror and questioned ourselves, but at the end of the day, we can either quit and be eaten alive by it or grab the bull by the horns and wrestle that beast to the ground.

Which one is it going to be?

I hope you take my advice, pick yourself up off the ground, dust yourself off and untwist. When you can find something to put your mind on, that’s good for you, and let THAT consume you. Whether you head off to the gym, going back to school, or just take a step outside of your comfort zone, whatever it is. Do it.

I found a way to make that change in my life. I went from a size 4x to a LARGE. I was ready to focus on a good change, and a new me. I stuck to getting healthy, and doing it the right way. For me, I decided to go Vegan. I cut all garbage out of my life (literally), and here I am in a size large, LARGE. Anything is possible, even for a guy who ate like I did.

Look:

With all of that, and the vegan thing already in progress. I came across this new book that a great friend highly recommended I had to check out. Not only was it a book, but a cookbook (yes, ladies and gentleman, I know how to cook now, somewhat). “Eat Your Heart Out” by Dean Sheremet, “The look good, feel good, silver lining cookbook.” I wasn’t too sure how I felt about a new cookbook (I have my go to specialty recipes), but it’s about stepping outside of our comfort zone right? The cookbook’s start is a glimpse into his life of being an everyday kid raised in Michigan. Marrying young into the lifestyles of the rich and the famous, to then going through a very public divorce. Re-discovering himself, and living out his new dreams of becoming a chef. I guess there’s one thing I forgot to mention. The book’s author, Dean Sheremet, is also known as the beautiful, and talented country superstar LeAnn Rimes’ ex-husband. Their divorce was highly publicized, and I’m sure you passed some magazine at the grocery store with it splattered on the front cover. I know too well that at the end of a relationship there are always two sides of the story, this cookbook is his. Okay, I know I’m getting closer to the point of my rambling here.

He discusses his struggles, and obstacles in his life. After the divorce he started from scratch in New York City, he redefined and discovered himself. He found out what he wanted to do, and he set to it. He found hope and joy in cooking, and entertaining. He put himself through culinary school, worked his way through the ranks to eventually earn his tall paper hat at Jean George’s, one of New York City’s finest 3-Michelin Star coveted restaurants.
Then I got into checking out his recipes, he puts them in categories such as “Nurture Yourself”- including nurturing comfort foods, such as a Margherita Pizza to “Eat Well Everyday”-Chile-Glazed Sea Bass, and “Throw A Party”-hello to his Bananas Foster French Toast, just to name a few! Over 200 pages and they all look phenomenal! He even tells you what tools you really need in the kitchen, to how to make sauce, almond milk, desserts, you name it...ALL OF IT! while choosing healthy ingredients to keep a healthy lifestyle! I can’t say my dishes may be as picturesque, but I can’t wait to try some of these Vegan recipes, while still suffering through a growling tummy at some of the others.

I also realized what he said couldn’t have been more true: “When it’s time to make a big change and do something that you never imagined you would do, you can only change your scenery, change your environment, and change your point of view -- if you believe in yourself -- and show yourself that you’re worth it.” (EYHO, page 15).
I give this cookbook a solid four stars. Make a change in your life today. Go out there and pick up this book, read his silver lining, then eat your heart out…and maybe save me your left overs.
